Gonçalo Roriz to Present at IST-PhysFront’25: Featured in Outstanding Student Talks

July 13, 2025 – We are proud to announce that Gonçalo Roriz, a student researcher involved in the FLASHGuard Project, will be presenting his work at IST-PhysFront’25 as part of the highly selective Outstanding Student Talks segment.

IST-PhysFront, organized by the Department of Physics at Instituto Superior Técnico, is an annual showcase of cutting-edge research by students and early-career scientists. The 2025 edition will take place on 10th September at Técnico Innovation Center.

Gonçalo Roriz's talk will highlight recent advances developed under the FLASHGuard Project. His presentation exemplifies the impactful student-led research being conducted within the project and at Técnico more broadly.

The Outstanding Student Talks segment features some of the most promising young physicists across various fields, selected based on academic excellence, research quality, and presentation skills. This recognition not only honors Gonçalo’s scientific contributions but also underscores the importance of FLASHGuard’s mission in advancing frontier technologies in physics.

FLASHGuard Project wins Lab2Market@Técnico 2025

Lisbon, 3 June 2025 – The Particles4Health research group at LIP, led by Pedro Assis, has captured the top innovation award at the 9th edition of Técnico’s Lab2Market accelerator programme. Their pioneering FLASHGuard Project clinched the António Brandão Vasconcelos Prize as the most innovative initiative of the year.

FLASHGuard Project represents a leap forward in FLASH Radiotherapy, an emerging treatment that delivers ultra‑short radiation pulses designed to spare healthy tissue and reduce side effects.

The winning team draws from Particles4Health’s emerging talent pool, including:

As the first-ever LIP/IST Physics Department‑based project to win Lab2Market, FLASHGuard underscores Particles4Health’s commitment to translating advanced detector R&D into real-world clinical tools.
